How to be an RTA

RTA's are hired each Fall and Spring from the 15-18 Temp RTA's used during the Fall move-in to help with the extra load which occurs during this period. The real question is, How do I become a Temp RTA?

Each February ResNet begins accepting applications for Temp RTA's. Applications will be available for download from our website or in paper form from the ResNet office. The application consists of a portion that you fill out, and a reference form to be completed by someone who can communicate why you would be a benefit to ResNet. The application deadline is usually the first week of March. After the application deadline, the ResNet Program Manager will contact you via email and allow you to choose an interview time slot. This informal interview allows current RTA's to get to know you and asses your skills. During this interview you will be asked about your experience with computer networks and customer service skills. You can ask RTA's for information about what being an RTA is really like. After all the interviews are completed. The ResNet Program Manager will notify all candidates of hiring decisions.

RTA's and Temp RTA's undergo training on the Wednesday prior to freshman move-in in August. During this time they learn all that is necessary to provide customer support during the move-in weekend. After this, Temp RTA's are encouraged to work the following week in the office on an as needed basis to help connect those who were not connected during move-in weekend. During the second week of classes, the ResNet Program Manager makes hiring decisions for the semester. The number of permanent RTAs hired each semester is partly based on the number of RTA's who graduate each semester. Those not selected to become RTA's during Fall semester are eligible for positions hired during the Spring. First year RTA's usually work 7-10 hours a week in the ResNet office to learn the necessary procedures to support the residential network, television and telephone services.

To be contacted via email when the applications are available this coming Spring, please complete and submit the form below.
