Windows Vista Setup Instructions (PDF)

This will explain how to configure Windows Vista to use the Georgia Tech LAWN. This does not cover wireless cards that rely upon vendor-specific configuration utilities. This does not cover the installation of the card itself, though typically this consists of nothing more than inserting the card and allowing Windows to do the rest.

LAWN Configuration for Windows Vista

NOTE: You should be able to search for wireless connections and find GTwireless. If not, try these steps:

  1. Start then Control Panel
  2. If a blue background with few icons appears, click on switch to classic view on the left tab.
  3. Double click on Network and Sharing Center.
  4. Click on Manage wireless networks.
  5. If you see Fastpass in the list, click on it and then click on Remove. We've had cases of Fastpass interfering with GTwireless.
  6. Click on the Add icon.
  7. Choose the second option, Manually create network profile.
  8. Enter the following details:
    • Network name: GTwireless
    • Security type: WEP
    • Encryption type: WEP
    • Security Key/Passphrase: If you do not have the WEP key, you may get from the LAWN SSID and WEP key webpage.
    • Start this connection automatically: Checked
    • Connect even if this network is not broadcasting: Either checked or unchecked. We now broadcast GTwireless.
  9. GTwireless will be added to the list. Move it to the top using the Up Arrow icon.
  10. Go back to the Network and Sharing and click on Manage network connections on the left.
  11. Right-click on Wireless Network Connection and disable it. Re-enable it after few seconds to refresh it.
  12. Open your favorite browser - the LAWN login page should pull up.
